Funny How Plans Change!

May 30, 2008 at 8:20 pm (INDIGO) (, )

Indi is chilling out with his dada for a little bit while so I can have some real internet time… or at least I would if his dada stops talking to me!!!

Before Indi was born I had so many plans and ideas, most of them have now been thrown out the window.
It was my plan to use cloth nappies - not disposables, wear him - not use a pushchair, we would co-sleep, he wouldn’t have a dummy (pacifier), only be breastfed and so on…
So far the only thing that I’ve actually stuck to is co-sleeping & breastfeeding! And I’m already being asked/told when I’ll start expressing… I DON’T WANT TO EXPRESS!!!!

Firstly, the cloth vs disposable… I bought a pile of cloth nappies to last him through to toddlerhood (wasn’t cheap) but now I’ve had the chance to try them on a real baby I really don’t like them. They squish his boy bits and I’m sure other cloth nappies don’t do the same. All it is is a piece of cloth, folded into a rectangle which is placed between baby’s legs and kept in place with a pair of waterproof velcro pants. Now the pants I don’t mind but that piece of cloth I just can’t get on with… I want the old style terry nappies!!

Next, I’ve been using the pram and a 27 year old Baby Bjorn style carrier (it’s what my Mum used with me and my other four sibs!) instead of my beautiful mei tais and sling :(
At first Indi seemed to small and floppy for me to be confident to use them and now I don’t know how to use them and don’t know anyone who could help. I will get used to them one day!

And tonight I have given in and admitted that at times Indi does want a dummy. He sucks on his hand a lot these days and will take a dummy eagerly at those times.
Oh, and another thing I’ve given in about? I bought one of those horrible plastic, noise making things that drive you crazy after a while but babies seem to love!

At least I have my boy next to me each night, something to be grateful for!

Update, again!

May 28, 2008 at 6:37 pm (Misc) (, )

Not doing very well with my blog lately am I?! Well I’ve got a 5 week old excuse ;)

We went to baby group with my sister-in-law (Andrea) and her little boy (William) today, where Indi was weighed… he’s put on a whole pound! Hooray! Tomorrow we’re meeting Andrea & William at Nancy’s - safety in numbers as they say, haha!

Indi’s sleep patterns are getting a little better now, he’s waking 2 -3 times at the most through the night now. It’s his daytime sleeping that is harder to sort out, my fault mainly because he likes to have a couple of hours in the afternoon but you can be guaranteed that we’re normally out and about in the afternoon. He’s sleeping on Jeff at the moment, giving me a chance to write this and catch up with some friends via email.
Um, scrap that! He’s starting to stir now… I’d better go get him and stick him on a boob!

B, I’ll try my hardest to email you soon. Hope you & Mia are doing well :)

Another Update

May 20, 2008 at 9:59 pm (INDIGO) (, )

We went to the baby clinic yesterday to get Indi weighed, he’s now 10lb, 1 and a half oz. Not bad eh?!

Birth weight - 9lb 2oz
9 days old - 8lb 8.5oz
13 days old - 8lb 15oz
21 days old - 9lb 10oz
27 days old - 10lb 1.5oz

That’s 6.5oz gain in 6 days! Greedy lil’ man!

I’ve been pretty busy these past few days, Saturday we went shopping with some vouchers that were given to us then stopped in Nancy’s for a bit. Sunday we spent the afternoon at the beach. Monday we went to baby clinic then I visited my mother with Indi & Sky and we took the dogs for a walk (it was also Indi’s first train ride!) and today I took Indi to visit Nancy again. Tomorrow the midwife is coming for our last visit then Andrea & William are joining me, Indi & Sky for a walk in the afternoon. Thursday I’ll be asking Mum if she wants to come up here and we’ll go for a walk if so. Friday will be my only day off as we’re going to Hay on Wye on Saturday!

I’ve never been so busy in my life!

I managed to bathe Indi all by myself this morning, and he seemed to enjoy it! No crying or fussing whatsoever - yay!

Breastfeeding Indi is obviously working when it comes to giving him what he needs but dude! It can bloody hurt at times… most times actually! Leftie is a bit cracked but not bleeding thankfully. And sometimes they hurt so bad that I have to clutch my chest, even more so if I’m cold. Sometimes they hurt even after Indi has emptied them.
At night the only way I can settle him is to let him nurse himself to sleep but then that often leads to him ‘posseting’ because he doesn’t really want the milk, just the comfort.
I have given him a dummy when I’ve been desperate but I think it might be affecting his latch so he won’t get it unless I need to build up milk supplies! Thankfully he doesn’t rely on it.

Anyway, it’s 11pm now. Indi is sleeping on my lap (he’s just finished nursing - yes I was NAKing!) so I’d better take advantage and get some sleep myself… he seems to wake up sometime between 2 and 3am now.

Bye for now :)

… Trip to the beach! OK, so he was asleep the whole time but it’s still a first ;)

And just ‘cos it’s too cute to not include, a smile… or involuntary muscular spasm!

Guess who’s feeling better?

May 14, 2008 at 10:42 pm (INDIGO, Misc, Post Natal) (, , )

ME!!!!

Well, I’ve got the major problem all sorted & over with. Now I’ve just got to get over this cold (which might actually be influenza ‘b’) and get a good night’s sleep… HA!
Didn’t get any sleep last night, due to me feeling so bad I couldn’t sleep not due to Indi. Indi actually slept well last night, only waking for two hours in the early morning.

Mum came up today to help me out, she was wonderful. THANKS MUM! *HUG*
Tomorrow she’s meeting my mother-in-law for the first time… yes, me & Jeff have been together for 6 and a half years & our parents have never met!!! Now Indi’s here I thought it’s about time the mums did!
Should be interesting ;)

Anyway, I’ll be back to update on how it went… bye for now :)

Update…

May 13, 2008 at 2:58 pm (INDIGO, Post Natal) (, )

Just a quick post to update on Indi’s progress…

Birth weight - 9lb 2oz
9 days old - 8lb 8.5oz
13 days old - 8lb 15oz
Today (21 days old) - 9lb 10oz!!!!!

Well, I guess he’s taking my breastmilk ok then?!?!

I’ve got a doctor’s appointment in two hours, hopefully my problem will be sorted soon and I can get back to life. My ‘problem’ is causing me a lot of trouble now - the sleep that I’m able to get is getting disturbed and standing for any length of time, let alone walking around, is impossible.
It’s really getting me down, we’ve had wonderful sunshine for a week now but I haven’t been able to get out and enjoy it, and Jeff’s going back to work day after tomorrow
Oh, and now I’m coming down with the cold/flu that Jeff’s been suffering with for over a week! Last thing I need right now!

I love my husband!

May 6, 2008 at 12:00 am (Misc)

I had this urge to give a big shout out for my man.

Throughout my whole pregnancy, labour, birth and ever since he has been my rock.

During the labour and birth he supported me unconditionally, he did everything in his power to make sure I was comfortable and as happy as I could be.

The look on his face, seeing his eyes light up as Indi was crowing gave me the extra oomph to push our baby out. Jeff held on to me and encouraged me as I screamed Indi into the world.

I know that as hard as I found giving birth was, it would’ve been worse had Jeff not been there. It doesn’t bear thinking of!

Knowing that Jeff was looking after our baby while I was in surgery for 3 hours helped me cope. If Indi had been put in a nursery, away from both his parents I would’ve struggled during surgery.

Since I came back from the hospital Jeff has done everything from taking care of our pets and cleaning the house to making me meals and passing the laptop/phone/remote control that is 2ins out of reach!

We’re going to miss him terribly when he has to go back to work :(

So Jeff, thank you. You’ve done more than you’ll ever know XXX

Quick Update

May 5, 2008 at 11:19 am (INDIGO) (, , , , )

Hey everyone :)

Just to let you know, my new little family is doing well.
I’m still suffering from various things but can see an end to it. Some days are worse than others, some days the tears flow more and some days the laughs ring louder. We’ll get through it.

Indi’s doing extremely well, he LOVES the boob and I’m finally getting a bit of a sleep pattern with him. He sleeps between me & Jeff, we’ve gotten over the ‘what if we crush him’ fear.
Jeff is getting more sleep now, I’ve taken over looking after Indi and he’s taking care of everything else. And when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING! He’s being so good :D

I will return to blogging soon, and I’ll have to find time to change my header and think of a new blog name!

Until then, here’s a photo of me & Indigo…
