Christmas Countdown

I’m in a flap! I couldn’t find anything this weekend for my parents and siblings so am ‘forced’ to make things for them!

For my sister I’m making some crochet birdie decorations and will add little twigs for them to be displayed on in her flat.
For Mum… I’m thinking quaint little heart decorations crocheted and sewn and/or maybe a crochet heart cushion.
Dad is a little bit more difficult. He’s looking for things to decorate his new apartment. Perhaps a couple of cushions for him too, but not hearts, more like ripples or straight lines. I don’t think a granny square cushion would really be up his street!
My brother Dan is very difficult to buy for, let alone make anything so I’m keeping it simple and making him a scarf.
Youngest brother Con really wouldn’t appreciate anything homemade so he’s getting cash to spend on computer games!

Jeff’s side of the family has been taken care of, and so has Indi. I can’t wait to see his little face on Christmas Day, his first ‘proper’ Christmas! (Last year he was too young to appreciate or understand it.)

We had a crazy shopping weekend, something we’re not used to at all. It was great fun picking up little gifts for Indi as he slept in his buggy but it was very hard to resist buying things for ourselves! Ok, we did pick up a couple of things but not nearly as much as we would have liked!

This Thursday we’re off up to Hay on Wye, the lovely little town that we eloped to five years ago. With any luck we’ll pick up the last bits and pieces needed for Christmas and then that is it, no more shopping!
I’ll be on the look out for mistletoe and holly too, it’ll be market day so hopefully I’ll get some really nice sprigs.

Next job to do is wrestle the Christmas decorations out of a very cluttered attic!

Music & Mayhem, Literally!

One cold ladybird in our garden

Indi & I went to a toddler group this morning called ‘Music & Mayhem’. It’s only for an hour but he absolutely adores going. There’s lots of singing and running about. Indi’s favourite parts are going under the huge ‘parachute’ and the bubbles at the end.
He was asking for bubbles constantly today, and got so excited when L started up the machine. All the other toddlers were equally as excited but they might as well have been invisible as far as Indi was concerned! Even when one overzealous child decided to shout in his face it didn’t faze him, he was fixated on the bubbles.
Guess what will be in his Christmas stocking this year!
By the time we got home, Indi was fast asleep and putting him to bed was easy.

Normally I’d be picking up my hook and crocheting away right now but our morning out left housework to be done. So if I get off the laptop I might actually get enough of it done to warrant a sit down and a chance to make some hearts

Sun! No really!

Can you see the blue sky just beyond that grey cloud? Funny how that little bit of sky can brighten a Monday!

This little table was found in a local charity shop, I painted it and all will be revealed in a couple of weeks…

My wrist is better, so I’m back to crocheting. I find it hard not doing anything creative at least for an hour day. I usually use Indi’s naptime as a chance to get crocheting but with my wrist being out of action we wallpapered part of the bedroom yesterday and I pulled out an unused alcove cupboard. Our bedroom hasn’t been decorated since we moved in and now is the time to get it done! I have so many plans for it and a long list of what needs to be stored/given/thrown away before anymore ripping out of useless cupboards and painting can be done. We wallpapered during Indi’s nap yesterday so his face was a picture when he came into our room to see the change! He seemed to like it anyway.
I’m off to buy paint tomorrow with a strip of wallpaper to match it up. What fun!

Quick Update :)

This is the third entry I’ve written this week, the words just haven’t been coming out right and time has run away from me!

Crochet is still my number-one-favourite-me-time thing to do, Indi sleeps for at least two hours during his midday nap and I’m lucky to be able to spend the whole time with hook & yarn in hand. I finished a beret for my sister’s birthday last week, am nearly half way through the ripple blanket, started a colourful bag, made a couple of large coasters and practised making flowers & stars!
I’ve got this wonderful feeling that this isn’t a phase… usually I go full-pelt into a new hobby and end up overdoing it resulting in needing a break from it!
And I have been travelling around looking for a good place to buy my yarn. I tell you, its not easy! I went to a shop in the next town over called ‘Valerie’s Wool Shop’ a couple of days ago, there was half a shelf of… I don’t even know the name for it! It was string with feathery fabric interweaved into it and glittery stuff, was tempted to suggest they change the name of their shop but I was quite eager to get me & Indi out of there.
Thankfully there is a nice shop not too far away, they have a good selection although its only acrylic yarn but it’s perfect. The shop lady was lovely too, cooed over Indi and told me about her grandson who’s just a few months younger than my little boy.
So thats covered :)

TTC wise, well I’ve just started a new cycle so we’ll see how this one goes… & that’s all you’re getting on that subject!

Indi has started saying a few words! He says car (car-ar), ball (bor-or), bubble (buh-uh), book & bron (bron is our word for milkies).
He does seem to have a preference for words starting with ‘b’ strangely, I was quite taken aback when he started saying car instead of brmmbrmm just a couple of days ago!
Indi likes to ‘help’ me feed the cats now, we have their dry food in a large tub & use a couple of scoops. Then when we’re done filling bowls he’ll open the door to let them in and laughs as they all rush past him!

Well that’s all for now, it’s a bit late and I’m getting tired… is it too late to crochet?… Yes! Go to sleep woman!

Baby Talk

My sister-in-law had a baby a couple of weeks ago, a beautiful little girl. It felt so strange holding this tiny baby (who, at 9lb 1oz,  was only an ounce smaller than Indi at birth!) after carrying my 30lb toddler around all the time!
SIL had a pretty awful birthing experience though, she had pre-eclampsia and had to birth her baby really quickly. Her first baby was born in perfect surroundings (birth centre) and there were no problems at all so this time round must have been quite horrible for her to adjust to.

My own little baby hasn’t been too well these past 24 hours, it seems to just be a bug and we’re hoping it won’t last much longer. It’s the first time he’s been sick, apart from colds, and it’s hard to see him throwing up anything he eats. We tried giving him a small amount of food last night but he couldn’t keep it down. Even breastmilk keeps coming up too. Thankfully he slept really well last night so I wasn’t too groggy when he started being sick next to me at 4.30 this morning! As soon as he was vomiting on my pillow he got up & started playing! He’s drinking water anyway so won’t get dehydrated.

So we won’t be going to our new home-ed group today, I’ll take him out for some fresh air later to walk the dog but that’ll be it for the next day or so… Poor little boy!

Hello, remember me?!

If you don’t visit my other blog (Pick, Cook & Brew) then you’re probably wondering where the heck I have been?!

Well, it’s busy, busy, busy in the Jones household lately.

Our little Indigo blue is growing so fast, so fast in fact that he is now officially walking! Can you believe it?? Ten months ago at this point in time Jeff & I were watching The Mighty Boosh on dvd. I was drinking a chocolate milkshake (my craving throughout pregnancy) and Jeff, after for-going alcohol for a few months, was having a relaxing ale. Just four hours later I was just getting into bed when, well you all know the story! And yeah, I’ll probably reminisce at each passing month, so stop moaning! ;)

Anyway, we took Indi over the border today for his first foray into England… Ooooo! Here are some photo’s, we went to Avebury and touched the stones…

We met a chaffinch begging for crumbs at the service station on our way there.

Indi’s first steps on ‘foreign’ soil (& grass!)

3

The the chin of the ‘face’ stone.

4

I love this photo!

5

The roots of these trees are amazing & beautiful

6

This is the first time Indi has been on my back out of the house

7

Indi was really interested in how the stones felt & cried each time we moved on!

8

Service station stop on the way home & this time it was demanding jackdaws… would want a peck from that beak!

“The time in your arms, at your breasts, and in your bed lasts a very short while in the life of a growing child, but the messages of love and security last a lifetime”

Just read this Sears quote & had to share… heart

We Have Lift Off… Nearly!

Our little boy has been standing for a few seconds at a time lately and just yesterday he took a few wobbly steps! He thought it was fantastic and screamed with laughter every time he put a foot forward and stayed upright.
He’s not crawling though. Instead he’ll go on his hands and toes, shuffle forward then sit back on his butt. I think he wears himself out doing this but after he manoeuvred around the whole living room I guess he thinks it’s just fine!

Indi is also perfecting his spoon skills! Yep, at 8 and a half months old, Indigo is dipping his own spoon into his yoghurt and putting it straight into his mouth! He’s also having no problem eating peas, raisins, grape halves, orange segments using his thumb and forefinger like a pro, and larger foods get shoved in by the fistful!

Instead of screaming and yelling, Indi’s starting to form sounds like ‘duh’, ‘guh’ & ‘muh’. Although he still likes a good shout!

Tooth number 7 has come through to make 3 on the bottom & 4 on top. It’s making feeding him feel a bit painful sometimes but I guess he just has to readjust hs latch and that’ll happen in good time.

I made him a pair of brown corduroy trousers & they fit! Ok, not the hardest of clothing to sew but I’m so glad to be sewing again. I’ll post a photo of him in them soon.

Stop Stealing My Baby’s Name!!!

Everyday now I’m getting hits from search engines along the lines of ‘baby name Indigo’ or ‘meaning of name Indigo’.
I chose that name because I wanted one so individual and unique that my son would never come across anyone with the same name as his.

Haha!

I see now that baby #2 shall have to have a name so unique that no-one else would want to use it! Nah I’m joking, we’ve got girl names for next baby and they’re not too far out IMO, boys names still elude us though!

If you got to my blog after doing a search for ‘Indigo’ then please leave a comment on this entry and let me know why you like this name for your baby. Is it for a boy or girl name, or both like we thought? What other names have you thought of? Ooo and if it’s not too personal, how far along is your pregnancy and how is it going?

Can you tell I love names and pregnancy?!

I must dash, my Indigo is attempting to climb the chair I’m sat on!

Can You Believe It?!

Our washing machine has died! Ok, so we had it for about 6 years AND it was from a rental company so must’ve been at least second hand (of course, we’re not paying rental on it anymore… although they did get a lot of my late father-in-law’s money… long (boring) story). I’m not sorry to see it go, it killed one of our cats and I’ve been waiting for the day that is no longer useful so we could get rid of it and the reminder.
BUT, with a little one and very little time, being washing machine-less is a nightmare in these modern days! And after Jeff has just bought a new pc and of course just before Christmas. Thankfully I thrive during extremely skint times so we’ll be fine! Jeff’s mother is doing a small load of Indi’s washing, we’d already done a load before it broke luckily. I handwashed nappies in the sink last night but will have to use disposibles for the next couple of days. The new machine is arriving sometime between 7am and 7pm on Wednesday. I thought we might have to wait a while for delivery because of the season, so happy that’s not the case!
This is the first washing machine we’ve bought and it was nice being able to choose exactly what I wanted! It’s not a cheap one, and not too dear either, after being caught out a few times we’re very aware of false economy these days!

Have I told you Indi has five sparkling white teeth now? Expect number six will be along in the next few weeks.
He’s trying to move around a bit more, has done a couple of rolls all by himself and travels backwards when he’s on his belly. Bed at five am seems to be Indi’s favourite time to attempt crawling and getting on his feet, using me as a prop of course!
We’re still suffering through the cold and flu ‘epidemic’. There was a week or two of no snobs and Indi nearly got back to his old night-time routine – he actually slept until 8.30 one morning, a lie-in! And then Jeff came down with a nasty bug for a week, I had ’something’ that had me out of action for 36 hours and of course Indi got it and it seems a million times worse!

Anyway, I’m off to do some meal planning :D
