Re: Chiro

Now then Mrs Hbacmama! You’re awfully insistent about getting me to a chiropractor aren’t you?! Here’s a short list of reasons why ‘I don’t wanna!’…

  • Really can’t afford it at the moment.
  • If I asked to be referred to one, by the time I get to the chiro’s office I’d be on my 2nd pregnancy!
  • Being touched by strangers seriously freaks me out!
  • It’s not that bad and I’d feel like a fraud pestering a chiro when there’s other women who can’t even walk!
  • I know a couple of ways to ease it myself.
  • Hopefully, I’ve got just 3 weeks left until Indi arrives so there doesn’t really seem much point.

If I’m lucky enough to get pregnant again in the future, rest assured that I plan to do a lot of things differently and will most certainly insist on seeing someone as soon as the SPD starts (start of 2nd tri for this one).

Thanks for your concern and suggestions Hbacmama, it’s not been wasted I promise :)

(P.S. Hope you had a fun playdate ;) )

Ow Ow Ow!

Just two days of trying to get this baby into a good position and bouncing on my birth ball has brought back the SPD three-fold! Everything that ‘optimal fetal positioning’ says to do seems to contradict what they say you have to do to ease SPD… eg. SPD – keep legs closed as much as possible and put your feet up, OFP – Keep legs open so pelvis is wide enough for baby to turn and never lie back or put your feet up!

Now which is more important?!

The nights are worse. After about 3am my hips start to ache so I am constantly changing from left to right as each hip gets painful the more I lie on it. I’ve found a way on being able to lie on my stomach (thanks to Spinning Babies) but can’t sleep in that position ‘cos I’m afraid of squishing the baby! S/he had fun kicking and punching my abdomen this morning when I attempted to get some rest! Yep, definitely back to back!

Anyway, me and Jeff are starting our days with the line “What shall we do today?” and the answer is always the same – “Wait!” It feels as though we can’t move on with anything because we’re waiting, waiting, waiting! Is that normal?

I’m going to try taking a bath with Clary Sage essential oils later… I hate baths but I’ll give it a go then shower off after. Perhaps it’ll help with my aches and pains and perhaps it’ll induce labour… Oh I hope so!

I Have Joined The INSOMNIA Club!

It’s just getting light outside, birds are twittering away and cats are kneading my soft dressing gown… with sharp claws!

5.50am. That’s what time I woke up! Gone 1am was when I finally dropped off. 3 hours is the amount of sleep I had between those times!!

I’ve spent the last couple of hours tossing and turning wondering why I can’t sleep. ‘Is my bladder full? No.’ ‘Has the baby stopped moving?’ (prods and pokes ensue) ‘No.’ ‘Did the baby kick me awake? No.’ All I know is that the constant changing sides trying to find a comfortable position made my hips ache and trying to keep that damn pillow between my knees was making my pelvis hurt more than it should! So I came downstairs, made a coffee (I have one ‘normal’ coffee a day, still need my early morning kick up the arse!) and logged on here. I don’t know what I’m going to do for the next couple of hours! Jeff’s still asleep of course, he’s going to get a shock when he notices I’m not lying next to him. I can’t do anything noisy in case I wake him up so I guess I’ll have to surf the internet for a bit.

If I think of anything else to write I’ll come back…

Just remembered what I thought to write during my tossing and turning moments. I really can’t be doing with going to a physio about the SPD thing. So’s long as I don’t over do it, it’s managable. I realise there could be another 8 weeks to go but I really don’t want to waste anyone’s time. So instead I’m going to try this exercise I have read about. It involves me lying down, knees up and Jeff putting his hands between my knees. I’ve got to try to keep my knees together as he tries to gently force them apart. I read about this exercise a few weeks ago but was skeptical about it until I slipped, nearly going into a split! It hurt for a few seconds but then I realised that my pelvic pain wasn’t as bad as before. So I concluded that the effort of trying to keep my legs together as the slippery ground forced them apart was an extreme form of that exercise and that it worked! Yes, I do go around things the long way!

Today’s Midwife Appointment

We went in at 1.40 pm and didn’t get out until 2pm… longest appointment yet!

Didn’t have the same midwife as last time but this one was a student midwife and she had her senior standing by. She asked me how I was feeling so I said about my aches and pains, not thinking anything would be done about it, but she then asked where I was feeling them and when – walking, turning over in bed, bending over, housework etc… yes to all! So off she went to get her senior, they gave me a leaflet and said if it gets any worse within the next week I shall have to be referred to a physiotherapist and use a support belt. SOMEONE LISTENED!!! Hooray! Turns out it is SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction), I’ve been saying that since the 1st trimester when it started getting painful on walks with Skylar. Anyway, they know now and I haven’t been fobbed off with “they’re just usual pregnancy pains”. I knew it couldn’t have been normal, not many of the other pregnant girls on the forum I visit complain about these kind of pains.

Next Louise (the midwife) measured bump, felt around for a bit to see where baby was lying and listened to the heartbeat. Because she was a student she used the old-fashioned Pinnard horn before using the Sonicaid for practise. After being prodded for 5 mins I think baby was a bit miffed because Louise got a huge kick in her ear using the horn! We went back over to her desk and she started filling out my notes. It turns out that baby is measuring 2 WEEKS larger than s/he should be! So now I have to go back next week to see if there’s been anymore growth and if there has I have to go and have a scan… oh dear! I found out today that my sister-in-law had to have a caeserean section because she was measuring larger but the baby was only 6lbs in the end. Well they can bugger right off if they think the size of the baby will scare me into having a c-section, it can be a 12lber and I’ll still refuse a knife near me… unless there is a genuine emergency of course.

So apart from having SPD and a potentially large baby everything is fine. Baby is head down but not yet engaged, heartbeat rate is 144 and my blood pressure is normal – 104/62. OH, forgot to say – I’ve got stretchmarks! Ah well, knew they’d get me in the end, haha!

Two books came for me in the post this morning – HypnoBirthing and Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth. They’re both all about natural, drug free births so I must find some quiet time to read them. It’s a bit hard to relax when you’ve got cats and dogs running back and forth! Jeff’s been signed off for at least another two weeks, it’s really lovely having him around :D

Oh, we took Sky to the beach yesterday. Absolutely beautiful but bloody freezing. I was in a lot of pain when we got back but it was so worth it, I needed to get out!
